SUPPORT IN IRELAND

This page provides information for those who are looking for support in the immediate aftermath of rape or sexual assault. If you have clicked this link because you would like to speak to someone about past assault or abuse, please contact our National 24-Hour Helpline on:

1800 77 8888. In the immediate aftermath of a rape or sexual assault, get to a safe place as quickly as possible. If you require emergency services, phone 999.

Garda

If you wish to report the crime, you should phone the Garda station nearest to the location where the assault took place. Click here to find the nearest Garda station.

SEXUAL ASSAULT TREATMENT UNITS (SATU)

You do not need to decide immediately whether to report the assault. To give yourself the option of doing so, you may decide to attend one of six Sexual Assault Treatment Units (SATU) across the country. Click here to find the SATU nearest you.

SATU provide specialist care for women and men who have recently been sexually assaulted or raped. If you are under 18 years of age you must have a parent or legal guardian with you to give permission for a forensic examination.

The SATU services respond to requests from Gardaí  to aid the legal process and also provide services for people who do not wish to report the incident. There is no charge for any of the SATU services or follow up appointments. SATU services can be accessed via An Garda Síochána, or by contacting the SATU nearest you.
